1.Shah Wali Ullah Muhadith Dehlvi (Rahimullah):

For example, you hold a false practice and gathering on the 10th of Muharram. Many have made this day into a day of mourning and lamenting whereas all incidents are a will of Allah (عَزَّوَجَلَّ). Hussayn (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) was martyred on this day but almost everyday there is someone dying. Why have the death of Hussayn (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) made into some sort of show? Mourning has been made into a sort of a celebration. This day, rather should be more for eating and drinking. Prayers are neglected on this day whereas they are fard ain (an obligation upon all Muslims). People are involved in the fabricated missing out on their prayer.

2. Hafiz Ibn Kathir (Rahimullah) 453 writes for the mourning processions:
The custom of gatherings of mourning are not a part of Islam. Had they been made considered a good thing, khayr al qurun (the best of the people) would have followed this practice. It was more upon them to follow this as they are not the ones to be innovators.

3.Shah Ismail Shaheed (Rahimahullah) writes in his book Sirat AlMustaqeem P 95:
(This is a translation from the Persian language). The innovation of mourning practiced in the IndoPak region leads to shirk. The grave of Hussayn (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) is represented and people prostrate to it. All that is carried out which an idolator would do for its idols. This is, in fact, idolatry.
